YEAH!! The road is fixed and is open. Follow our normal directions.

 

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.  This is Sun Mine Rd 1/4 mile from our entrance.  The state is getting ready to repair this sink hole, but there are so many in our area right now due to record breaking rain, it maybe down to one lane for awhile.  Even though one lane of the road is currently open, we recommend using the detour below when bringing in your RV.  Once you are here, you can travel safe to and from your destinations using Sun Mine Road. It will not effect your drive time to Pittsburgh.

The information and detour instructions below was sent to all of our pending reservations last week.

 

Dear Mountain Top Guests,

 

Unprecedented severe weather has impacted our area, and several roads near Mountain Top have been severely damaged. A flooding creek in our little township even made the front page of the Pittsburgh city paper!  Specifically, damage has occurred on Sun Mine Road less than a ½ mile from our entrance. A sink hole has opened up and is growing by the day. Only one lane is open at the moment, but we expect the township will soon close the road completely in order to finish repairs.

 

The alternative route, a 4 ½ mile detour, is as follows:

 

Arriving (from the south) on Route 28 North take Exit 14; at bottom of ramp turn left onto Bull Creek Rd.

 

Arriving (from the north) on Route 28 South take Exit 14; at bottom of ramp turn right onto Bull Creek Rd.

 

Then continue 4 miles, turn right onto Lardintown Road

Continue ¼ mile to stop sign. Continue straight through the stop sign on Lardintown Rd.

Continue approximately 1 mile, turn left onto Callen Road

Go ½ mile up hill, at the stop sign turn left onto Sun Mine Road

Continue 1 mile and the campground will be on the right.

 

These roads are paved country roads, a travel trailer 30ft or under can easily navigate this detour. If your unit is larger than 30ft, be prepared for slow going.  If you have experience making tight turns with your rig be confident. A semi truck with a 40ft trailer can complete this detour. If you are uncomfortable driving under these conditions and choose not to visit us, we will refund your deposit. If you choose to cancel your reservation, please let us know asap.  You can call the office the morning of your arrival to get up-to-date details on road conditions.

 

At the moment Sun Mine road is open for car and light truck traffic, so once you get here with your RV, your drive time to Pittsburgh in a secondary vehicle will not be affected.

 

We are confident the township will fix the road as soon as conditions allow.
